This is the best volume of a great set
I have the four volumes of "The Best of Bob & Ray," and this one is my favorite. The great classic routine "VCR Children" is on it as well as three others of what I think are their best routines: "Transatlantic Bridge," "South Quoddy Airlines," and the "Club of the Month Club." Can't explain it here--you'll just have to listen and laugh till your nose runs.

"The Best of Bob & Ray" Is Simply the Best!
Bob and Ray's low-key humor is perfect for long drives. I have the four volumes of "The Best of Bob & Ray." Each volume has four audiocassettes, each audiocassette with two 30-minute shows that will keep you in stitches and make the miles fly. "Garish Summit" is without a doubt the greatest soap opera ever to make you laugh so hard your nose runs.Volume 1 will have you longing for Wing Po, Traveling Philosopher, to come by and read your woodpile.

The Big Small Church Book
Published in Paperback by Pilgrim Pr (October, 1992)
Author: David R. Ray
Average review score:

What they don't teach in seminary
Special churches need special care and author, David Ray, knows that this is true for the small churches of the country. With our emphasis on "bigger is better", the pastor of the small church has been ignored. Ray points out the delights of working with small churches and offers a myriad of suggestions to address every need of small church life. He offers hope where most authors have focused solely on the challenges. This book gave me fresh insight and renewed vigor for my own beloved small church. I highly recommend it

Biofire
Published in Hardcover by Mark V Ziesing (January, 1999)
Author: Ray Garton
Average review score:

Pure Genius
This is one of Ray Garton's best, and one of his more ambitious novels. It has to do with a woman who is used pretty much as a lab rat by her evil husband for a scientific experiment to develop biological warfare. As you can probably guess, this backfires just a tad. On a grand scale. This book is full of the things I absolutely love Garton for, such as well-developed characters that you really care about, some other nasty characters that you want to see come to a terrible end who do, shocking plot twists, and startling originality. I waited over 2 years for this book, and I can honestly say it was worth it. One of Garton's best--I wish he didn't have to do so many cruddy novelazations and teen books to pay the rent (though the teen horror book "Game Over" was actually pretty good) and could focus more on his horror thrillers. If I had the money (I don't) I'd track down everything he's ever written. Highly recommended-- if you haven't read Garton before this is a good place to start, and if you have, then you'll love reading this and enjoying what he does best.

Birth and Relationships: How Your Birth Affects Your Relationships
Published in Paperback by Celestial Arts (May, 1987)
Authors: Sondra Ray and Bob Mandel
Average review score:

So many questions Answered!!!!
I learned so much about myself and my past from this book. I highly reccommend it to anyone who wants to know where and how they developed their negative patterns in life. I don't think it all comes from birth trauma, but after reading this book I've realized that being born is one of the hardest things most of us ever do in our lives, and it's no wonder our experiences then continue to affect us for so long aftewards. You and your mate will make so much more sense to each other in the context of the information offered here!

The Black and White Stories of Erskine Caldwell
Published in Hardcover by Peachtree Publishers (November, 1984)
Authors: Erskine Caldwell and Ray McIver
Average review score:

A MIND OPENING COLLECTION
Erskine Caldwell's sharp prose has captured the brutal culture of the south during the stark days of the depression. Readers were brutally shocked as they confronted the spiritual and psychological poverty of Caldwell's characters. In this collection of short stories Caldwell tackles the the complex relationships of Blacks and Whites in segregated America.

This collection was selected by Ray McIver, a Black man, who as a student became captivated by Caldwell's stories. Caldwell's honesty as a white southerner in dealing with racial relationships lead to both men becoming friends and working together to present these stories from varied magazines in which Caldwell was published.

The Black and White Stories of Erskine Caldwell shows the brutality of white men against Blacks in the rural south. The book is divided into four sections dealing with the themes of lynching, sexual exploitation, sadism and flim flamming. Caldwell's characters will shock you with their hate, cowardice and ignorance. You will come across characters who have to walk a thin line in the racial divide in order to survive. You are hit home with the raw emotions of Blacks and Whites who are locked in a never ending battle of wills.

This book is not a social commentary. It presents the stories in a straight forward manner that doesn't call for any apologies. Some of the stories will make you laugh and others will make you cry. Some will make you feel sick to your stomach and still others will fill you with riotous laughter. Caldwell hits his readers will a wide pallet of emotions as you attempt to make sense out of a chaotic world now gone.

Black Eagle Child: The Facepaint Narratives
Published in Paperback by Grove Press (January, 1997)
Author: Ray A. Young Bear
Average review score:

What do owls, fireflies, and UFOs have in common?
This is a great read! Ray A. Young Bear's book is not as difficult to penetrate as some of Gerald Vizenor's stuff, but is just as smart. It isn't quite the way Louise Erdrich weaves her stories together, but his use of language and his ability to tell a story is just as good. He's poetic, magical, honest, and can paint pictures with words you won't forget.

What is it about? Well, it's about life. It is about the lives of a group of people from the heartland of America.

If you like Native American literature, get it. If you like poetry, get it. If you enjoy staying up and night and laughing with the characters in the books you read, and feeling their pain, I think you won't be disappointed.
